Position Summary

The Business Manager is a part-time consulting position working about 20 hours per week. This position oversees all non-artistic functions of Light Opera of New Jersey, ensures financial sustainability, and leads day-to-day organizational management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Artistic Director to align artistic goals with available resources
  • Develop and manage the annual LONJ budget and the budget for individual productions, shows and concerts in collaboration with the Board and especially the Treasurer, the Artistic Director, and each show’s producer
  • Oversee financial management, reporting, and compliance in alignment with the Board and especially the Treasurer
  • Manage daily operations of the company and supervise Operations Manager
  • Ensure policies, contracts, and legal obligations are properly carried out
  • Serve as primary liaison with all venues for negotiation of contracts and ticketing management
  • Oversee operational aspects of all outreach programs, including LONJ’s Opera for All, Savoy Faire, and Youth Ensemble
  • Responsible for overseeing marketing and communications on behalf of Light Opera of New Jersey
  • Recruit and recommend to the Board of Trustees all consultants and primary vendors and oversee their work.
  • Support fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grants, and sponsorships.  Represent the company to funders, partners, and community stakeholders in collaboration with the Director of Development

Qualifications

  • Leadership experience in a nonprofit or performing arts organization
  • Strong background in financial management
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all other company staff, leadership and volunteers
  • Knowledge of nonprofit governance and best practices
  • Ability to work with the highest standards of integrity with the goal that activities are legal and ethical

Other

  • Initial compensation is $20,000 to $24,000 per year paid in monthly installments.
  • Daily work will be remote, plus local travel. Employee will provide their own computer and Internet access to log in remotely to the LONJ system
  • Local travel and technology are not reimbursed.
  • Production work will require onsite presence at theatrical venues and elsewhere as needed.
  • Hours are flexible

Physical Demands:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use computer and office equipment, talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
